A lifelong surfing and shaping enthusiast

Makani McDonald has been shaping the world of surfing for over 15 years. From a young age, he was inspired by key figures: his father Kenny Tilton , but also his godfather Joe Kuala and Mike Wellman on the island of Kauai, who guided him throughout his childhood and adolescence.
Even today, Makani draws his inspiration from all the shapers whose work has caught his eye, with a major influence in recent years: Glenn Pang , with whom he has worked for more than 5 years.

A modern, creative and attentive shape

Makani enjoys designing modern, high-performance shortboards and longboards , but he also loves to think outside the box by experimenting with new designs to spark his imagination.
In recent years, the twin fin trend has exploded, and Makani has developed several ultra-fun models, in collaboration with our team riders and customers.
Among his most popular creations: Twinnister , Missing Link , but also H-Mod , Dabbler , Gizmo , Sk8 , Mini Beast and Nugget .

His greatest talent? Being able to listen , understand and translate surfers' expectations into perfectly adapted boards. Thanks to his keen eye and experience, Makani is able to deliver hyper-consistent boards, whether for a first order or to adjust and refine an existing shape.

A relationship of trust with its riders

Makani collaborates with many talented surfers, including Brisa Hennessy , Nage Melamed , Keoni Jones , Brittany Penaroza , Summer Ivy , Kai Martin , Yukko Whiteside , Guy Chang , Heather Faustin , Tyrra Galano , Kaleo Relator , Kristian Mcdonald , Maddie Gumbrecht , Daniel Johanson , Ryan Parker and Koa Yokota .
His commitment to helping young talent is constant — and his list of collaborations continues to grow!

The future of shaping is in his hands

At T&C Surf Designs, we are proud to have Makani as part of our shaping team. His passion , energy , and attention to detail are evident in each of his boards.
His goal is simple: to create boards that make you smile, and he does it wonderfully.
