In 1971, with limited capital but boundless passion, Craig opened his first shop in Pearl City. At the time, Kamehameha Highway was the only route to the north shore and its legendary waves. The shop’s name reflected its strategic position between Oahu’s two surfing hubs: Town and Country. The shop’s strategic location and the quality of the boards generated strong demand for Town & Country surfboards. In the early days, renowned shapers such as Glenn Minami and Barry Kanaiaupuni helped Craig meet the growing demand. The logo, suggested by a graphic designer specialising in T-shirts, has a strong visual identity and a profound meaning. The simplest and most relevant meaning for surfing is: BALANCE. This balance has shaped Town & Country’s evolution over the years.
